Supporting and guiding those with Asperger’s Syndrome to live to their potential, offering support and respite to their families, and advocating for this population in the community.

 

The Development of VERITAS3

Effective resources for the support and treatment of adults with Asperger’s Syndrome are extremely limited. In response, Affiliated Mental Health Programs has developed a comprehensive, community-based service for people with Asperger’s Syndrome, ages 14 and up.

 

Philosophy:  Strength Based Approach

Our key objective is to support and nurture the strengths of individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome. Problems are addressed to assist the clients in fulfilling their potential and reaching their goals in interpersonal relationships, education, employment and pursuing meaningful, safe activities.

 

The Programs:

Intensive Case Management coordinates services with all providers to ensure that there is consistent and competent care. An individual treatment plan is developed with each client and is updated quarterly. Intensive Case Management may include the following:

Accompanying client to care providers

Ongoing mental health status assessment

Medication management

Teaching and coaching daily living skills

Grooming and self care

Structuring time

Mobility in transportation

Clothing care

Money management

Stress reduction

Managing sensory overload

Placement and coordinating volunteer work and / or employment

Vocational advocacy and support

Advocating within educational system

Advocating with law enforcement

Peer mentoring supervised by VERITAS3 staff

Coordinating all care with other providers

Promoting recreation activity

Providing support and guidance to the family

Liaison for respite care

Individual counseling

Couples and Family Counseling

Independent Living Support offers all the components of Intensive Case Management with an additional emphasis on the following:

Monitoring and addressing isolation

Monitoring activities of daily living

Grocery shopping and meal preparation

Finding resources

Teaching skills necessary to negotiate in community

                    Banking

                    Budgeting

                    Making change

                    Appropriate tipping

                    Appropriate purchase choices

                    Responding to emergencies

Support and Skills Groups for Clients and Families are facilitated by trained professionals. The following groups are available to adolescents ages 14 to 17 and adults ages 18 and up:

Social Skills Training

Activities of Daily Living Skills

Peer Support in Problem Solving

Recreation Group Outings

Groups available to family members are:

Support and peer consultation

Advocacy training

Education group on Asperger’s Syndrome to share information, literature

    and resources
