Information and Speaker Meeting for Adult Children of Aging Parents, “The Caregiver Must Survive”


About

The Caregive Must Survive is a series of sessions meant for people who have or will have the responsibility of caring for aging parents.

  • This 8-part series will provide information from professionals about legal issues, housing options, geriatric health care, and the care of the caregiver.
  • The sessions will be offered in the Seattle area beginning mid-July and on the Eastside beginning in August, 2010. Meetings will be held at a variety of senior retirement communities in the greater Seattle area to provide an opportunity to become familiar with various options and levels of care.
  • Meetings are organized and chaired by Janny Becker, retired Occupational Therapist, owner of the sponsoring agency, Affiliated Mental Health Programs, Inc. Janny has worked in mental health for 42 years, and has assisted seniors and their families with these issues.

Fred Bowens has 25 years experience working with co-occurring disorders. He has led groups at Harborview, Highline West Seattle Hospital (Navos), Community Chemical Dependency programs, and at Affiliated Mental Health Programs. Fred is licensed as both a Mental Health Professional and a Chemical Dependency Professional.
